Nothing it is a dog. You can keep him clean if he keeps getting dirty hose him down or rinse him off in the tub but do not use lots of products on a dog if you didn't like dog smell you shouldn't have gotten a dog. Lots of products and too frequent of baths will cause skin irritations.





I hope you can get used to the dog smell I was not suggesting you were a bad owner but I am a little surprised at how many people ask a question like this. Careful with the bath time, if you wash the dog too often, you wash out the oil from his sebaceous glands, which can give him skin problems. Once every two or three weeks oughta do the trick. Dogs tend to smell doggy, especially older dogs. Does your dog have a particularly strong odor?


There's not much you can or should do about normal dog smell, especially if you're hell-bent on keeping his hair long. If you're willing, a trim will help decrease the scent, and it may also have something to do with his food. Try switching food brands and see if anything changes.

My two dogs barely have an odor at all, really, you have to put your nose right in their fur to smell anything and even then it's not an unpleasent smell. They eat a high quality pet food, that's why.


Look for a food without corn, soy, wheat, by-products, and excessive amounts of rice. You'll have to look at a pet store, supermarkets only sell cheap food.
